What happens if your marriage or civil partnership ends?

If you're getting divorced or are separating from a civil partner you may be asked to share your pension with your spouse or ex-partner. If the court issues a Pension Sharing Order in favour of your ex-spouse or partner, it will state what proportion of your pension must be allocated to them.

The total value of your pension to be shared is calculated based on a value called the cash equivalent transfer value - this is the amount the Scheme would pay if you moved the value of your pension out of the Scheme. You can request a quotation online using the divorce transfer value quotation form.

The amount to be shared has to be transferred out of the Tesco PLC Pension Scheme. It can be transferred to your former spouse or partner into a scheme of their choice - we refer to this as 'the receiving Scheme'.

You can read more about divorce and separation in our divorce leaflet.
